Monday Benefit Dinner for Open Arms Home for Children in South Africa

“To the world you may be only one person. But to one person you may be the world.”

After a family vacation to South Africa in 2005, and witnessing firsthand the devastating effect of the AIDS pandemic on the children in South Africa, Bob Solis and his wife Sallie founded Open Arms Home for Children in Komga, Eastern Cape of South Africa, a residential environment that serves the emotional, physical and developmental needs of orphaned, abused, abandoned, and disadvantaged children. Using their hard earned life savings, Bob and Sallie purchased a 70 acre tract of land on a hill and started building the first of several buildings known as Open Arms Home for Children.

OA welcomed their first child in 2006, and is now home to 39 children ages 6 months to 13 years of age. The goal for 2012 is to raise enough funds to expand the kitchen/dining facilities, add a community room, build facilities to accommodate volunteers, and increase the number of children to 70.

This benefit dinner event will include a presentation by Bob Solis, a moving firsthand account of Elly Hart’s experience as a volunteer, including slides and videos of the children at OA, and a delicious four course meal provided by The Elephant Walk.

Tickets are only $45.00 and can only be purchased on line. Reserve your ticket early as seating is limited.

Bob’s book “The Twelve Lessons Learned” will be available for purchase. Additionally, The Elephant Walk has agreed to donate half the value of all gift cards purchased on the night of the event, and half of the cash bar, back to Open Arms.

WHEN? Monday, October 24, 2011 at 6:30pm

HOW MUCH? $45 per person, including meals tax and gratuity. Fifty percent - 50% - of the restaurant's proceeds go to Open Arms Home for Children!

WHAT'S INCLUDED? A four-course meal, a glass of wine or beer, meals tax, and gratuity.
