About the organization:

The Brookline Cambodia Partnership is a global initiative involving Brookline High students and staff.  One of our major goals is the funding of a secondary school in Cambodia through the American Assistance for Cambodia’s Rural Schools Project.  We intend to raise $23,000 by August 2010 through a variety of school and community efforts.  The funds will specifically be used to construct a 3-6 room school house, hire a trained English/computer teacher, and provide internet services on donated computers to 100-400 Cambodian students.  Schools are typically open for student enrollment within six to eight months from the beginning of construction.

Over time, we hope to forge a deep and ongoing relationship between Brookline High School students and Cambodian students attending the village school.  In the short-term, BHS students will assist with our various fundraising efforts and communicate with Cambodian peers via e-mail and chat rooms.  Ultimately, we hope students will have the opportunity to visit Cambodia and engage in meaningful service learning projects at the rural school.  Working on this initiative offers BHS students the immense opportunity to grapple with complex global issues and experience the power of service learning.
